George went on to make a full recovery but was extremely poorly

The mum of a five-year-old boy who battled Strep A in hospital has shared a warning to fellow parents and says her GP initially misdiagnosed her son as having thrush. Jenna Higham, 24, has shared a picture of her son George in hospital following the death of six children in the UK from the infection, Mirror Online reports.

"He developed a heart murmur because he was so ill and he was screaming in agony from the pains in his legs. They couldn't get a drip in him because he was thrashing about so much, so he was given intramuscular antibiotics."George eventually made a full recovery but as health chiefs say rates are up to five times higher than before Covid, Jenna says parents need to be aware of the symptoms. Jenna added: "His screams will always haunt me.
