Mum forced to re-use soiled nappies on Lancs streets where cost of living crisis will be 'catastrophic'

A Preston mum forced to re-use soiled nappies to save money, another using sanitary towels instead in a desperate bid to cut down on outgoings.

As a mother and grandmother, Sue compassion to help others grew more as the pandemic hit. But now, her services have stretched "further than ever" as the cost of living crisis poses bigger threats to families. "It's been extremely heartbreaking listening to the families coming to us and telling their stories," she said. "We've had one mum who came to us because she was having to water down her new born baby's bottle - she couldn't afford to buy formula.

Many families have seen their monthly budget stretch to its limit with rising fuel and energy costs. Sue says while that will no doubt have an impact on many, its families with young children and babies that are now struggling in different ways. "The situation is awful, it's just going to get worse and worse, we've not even had frost or cold yet. For families who are going to stat turning on their heating, if they can, it's going to take more and more of their finance away and they're going to have to start making some really crucial decisions on whether it's heating and hot water or whether it's food for them and their families.
