'The road was absolute sheet ice. My son fell on the same spot where the lorry incident happened.'
A mother has called on Lancashire County Council to grit roads after a delivery lorry skidded towards a resident’s home.
“He slipped in the middle of the road and a car was coming at him. He was traumatised. My daughter has also slipped on ice.” Nicola says although the incident caused little disruption, she fears that in the future a worse incident could occur and it is especially concerning given that it is a school route. Ungritted streets and roads has made it more difficult for Nicola to walk about as she uses a stick to help with her balance due to an injury.
“St Charles Roman Catholic Primary and Rishton Methodist Primary have not had gritting near the streets around their schools. It is the whole of Rishton, not just us. On Real Rishton First Facebook page people have posted about their issues.” “It’s heartwarming to see people are doing that, but at the same time they shouldn’t have to. We pay tax for this. We’ve had snow and temperatures of -8 degrees and it is not clearing. The council has a duty of care to make the streets safer.”
She says she is appreciative of the school’s measures to keep children safe but once they are out onto ungritted roads and footpaths it is a ‘death trap’.
