A mum who suffered in pain for eight years and left bed bound by a mystery illness has finally received a diagnosis after travelling to Mexico

Kirstie, from Watford, said: “[If the infection had been diagnosed] it could have cleared up in 28 days with antibiotics - now my body is shutting down and my husband has to pick me up to use the toilet and have a bath. I was doing high intensity training before, I was very fit and it's now at the point where when I wake up my entire body is weak and hurts everywhere.
Despite her symptoms, blood tests didn’t show any problems and doctors assumed she was suffering from an autoimmune disease. As a result, they attempted to suppress her immune system - which Kirstie now believes only worsened her condition. After returning to the UK, Kirstie says she was put on three different antibiotics on a 12-month course and has also used herbal remedies to try to combat the illness. She added that she is still battling to find doctors who understand the condition and know how best to treat it.
