Dalbeattie’s Ian Simpson won three TT races and five British championships during a 15-year career in the 80s and 90s.
He said: “When you’ve been retired from racing for a good few years you can tell the truth much more, because you’re not under contract to anyone and you don’t have to worry about upsetting anyone. The man who won his first British championship two days after breaking his back will also reveal the true extent of the injuries that eventually forced his retirement.
But he also promises laughs, and added: “When I read another bike racer’s book, I like the funny stories. But there’s not many of them with funny stories, so I hope this book will make people laugh at all the crazy things bike racers get up to, both on and off the track.”
