Hyson Green and Newark South West are among the areas highlighted
Data from the 2021 census has highlighted the most deprived areas in Nottinghamshire when considering education, employment, health and housing. The data found that the areas with the highest percentage of households deprived in all four areas are Radford, Hyson Green, Newark South West, Sutton Central and Leamington.
These four areas each have 0.6% of its households classed as deprived in all categories. A household is classified as deprived in education if nobody has at least a level 2 in education, and nobody aged 16 to 18 is a full time student, whereas a household is deprived in health if any member is classed as disabled.
Similarly a household is deprived in the housing dimension if the household is overcrowded, in a shared dwelling or has no central heating. A household deprived in employment is when any member of the household, who is not a full-time student, is either unemployed or disabled.Whilst 0.6% of households in Newark South West are deprived in all four categories, 6.3% of households are deprived in any three of the four. This rises to 10% of households in Sutton Central and Leamington, 8.
However, when looking at how many households in each of these areas are deemed to be deprived in at least one area, this is 36.6% of households in Radford, 36% of Newark households. 35.6% of those in Hyson Green and 33% of Sutton Central and Leamington. Previous, separate Government data has also ranked the most deprived neighbourhoods of Nottingham.
