Long delays are expected on key commuter routes this morning
Long delays are being predicted on key commuter routes this morning , after snow fell across parts of Greater Manchester and as the cold snap continues across the region. The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across parts of the UK, including Manchester, throughout Tuesday and lasting until midday today
Transport for Greater Manchester is warning commuters and travellers that there is a "risk of disruption to the transport network" and it is advising people allow extra travel time for their journeys. And TfGM says long delays are expected this morning on the A57 Manc Way and Regent Rd, while repairs to restore the signals at Trinity Way and Regent Road continue after a crash yesterday. It says journey times will be longer than usual, especially heading into the City from M602.
Forecasters had already predicted snow on Tuesday evening, and from around 5pm, the white stuff began falling across parts of Wigan and Bolton. It was also seen falling over parts of Whitefield, Prestwich and also Manchester city centre. For many, Tuesday morning was already an icy start as sub-zero temperatures were recorded overnight. Some areas of Greater Manchester recorded temperatures as cold as -3C, with misty and foggy conditions.
