We look back at affection the billionaire owner of Harrods and Fulham FC had for Scotland, following his death at 94.

Mohamed Al-Fayed vowed to move to Scotland permanently and become president, should it gain independence.The Egyptian businessman was the father of Dodi Fayed, who was in a relationship with Princess Diana when the pair were killed in a car crash in Paris 1997.

In the mid-noughties he unveiled a life-size waxwork of himself in full Highland dress at his visitor centre on the 65,000-acre Balnagown estate in Sutherland. However, Al Fayed was less enthusiastic about First Minister Alex Salmond, who, he said, had snubbed his offers of "help and advice". The news ofAl Fayed's death was announced by Al Jazeera Egypt, who revealed that he was buried following Friday prayers after a service at Regent's Park Mosque in London. Ashraf Haider, a member of his family was heartbroken as he shared the news with Al Shorouk newspaper.

Another posted: "OMG I've just heard that ex Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed has died aged 94. he his now reunited with his son Dodi, sending condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace." Uri Geller also shared his memories during his years with the businessman, saying: "So sad to hear of the passing of the great #Mohamedalfayed. A cherished friend for many years, #Mo introduced me to #michaeljackson among so many other celebrities. A wonderful man, larger than life and with a heart of gold. I will miss him greatly."
