A momentous occasion 🤩
has been given added sparkle as its 14 chandeliers are given their annual polish. The chandeliers are cleaned during a carefully planned operation, which requires them to be lowered one at a time.
The 12 other smaller versions, which date back to the Edwardian era, weigh 500kg each and take around 15 minutes to lower manually. The whole process will take around a week, with a team of specialist cleaners given the painstaking task of dusting and polishing all 14 entirely by hand. The Italian hand-cut crystals are illuminated by 1,120 LED lights, which are also checked during cleaning.
"This is a really special day for us and only happens once a year," said Aaron Edgar, operations manager at the Tower Ballroom.
