Hundreds of employees have been laid off at Microsoft, including staff from Xbox.
, hundreds of Microsoft employees, but less than 1,000, have been let go as part of"structural adjustments" the company is making. These cuts affect staff from the Xbox division as well as the Microsoft Strategic Missions and Technology organisation."Like all companies, we evaluate our business priorities on a regular basis, and make structural adjustments accordingly," a Microsoft spokesperson told Business Insider.
Business Insider also reports that Studio Alpha, a"serious gaming initiative" that was dedicated to creating cloud-based war-gaming simulations for customers like the U.S. Department of Defense, is one of the departments being shut down. Back in July, Microsoft announced it planned to lay off less than 1% of its employees, though it's unclear if this most-recent round of redundancies is related to that announcement. At the time, Microsoft employed around 180,000 people.
