The Met Office heat alert has now been extended
A rare amber "extreme heat" warning that has been issued by the Met Office covering part of Lancashire has now been extended.
The Met Office has said to expect population-wide adverse health effects that are not limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat, which could lead to potential serious illness or danger to life. Government advice is that 999 services should be used in emergencies only; seek advice from 111 if you need non-emergency health advice.
The Amber Warning comes at the end of a week when the UK will see widely-above average temperatures, with a Level 3 UK Health Security Agency Heat Health Alert in place for southeastern areas this week, and a Level 2 alert for much of the rest of England.
