Many of the family businesses are now in their third generation
On Merseyside, we're fortunate enough to have many garden centres and nurseries that cater for both the seasoned horticulturist or beginner with a green thumb.
Gordale Garden and Home Centre An award-winning family run business, Gordale Garden and Home Centre is now in its third generation. Established in 1948, Gordale on Chester High Road in Neston has continued to expand since its humble beginnings decades ago. But earlier this year, Whitakers entered a new era and had its last trading on Sunday, March 26, with shoppers saying a final goodbye to the historic site. It wasn't all bad news as Whitakers soon opened its new site, just over a mile away on Manchester Road.
Sefton Meadows Garden Centre Sefton Meadows Garden Centre dates back to the 1980s and has been family run from the beginning. Managing director Tim Withers previously told the ECHO how his family took over it from the Cassidy family in 2006. Sadly Joe passed away in 2003, however the family continues to run the site. Now offering everything from plants and garden furniture to fresh produce, kitchenware and more, in 2014, a major revamp of the garden centre also began with the first phase completed in 2015 and a state of the art 300 cover restaurant, called the Atrium Restaurant later opening.
