The pair were exonerated last year and New York City and state have now agreed to pay out tens of millions of dollars.

Two men wrongly jailed for murdering iconic civil rights activist Malcolm X are to get $36m compensation.

The pair were released in the 1980s after spending about 20 years locked up for the 1965 assassination. "Muhammad Aziz, Khalil Islam, and their families deserve this for their suffering," said lawyer David Shanies.
