“‘This isn’t how normal people have lunch.’” Matt Gotrel is laughing as he tells talkSPORT how his wife reacts to the portions required to stay at the top of his game as a SailGP grinder.

“You’ll have big spikes of power where you’ll need to produce 1500 watts with your arms. Some races, though, you could be flat out for the whole thing.” Translation: He can basically power a small heater with his arm strength.“You need to do quite a lot of aerobic body and quite intense, short sessions to make sure you can prepare for the spikes and you need weight lifting to keep the power. And you need to be able to run across the boat during races! Which is the bit I find hard.
