Max Verstappen gave Lando Norris a “red card” and joked that the Brit smashing his Hungary trophy will be coming out of McLaren boss Zak Brown’s pocket.
While Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was the one to start from pole at the Hungarian Grand Prix, he could not turn that into a podium finish, never mind what would have been a record-breaking ninth win at the Hungaroring. Instead Verstappen took his seventh win in a row and Red Bull’s 12th, his team therefore breaking McLaren’s record streak which had stood since 1988, and Verstappen did so with his biggest winning margin of the season as he crossed the line almost 34 seconds ahead of McLaren driver Norris. But, as the pals sprayed the champagne on the podium, Norris’ trademark bottle celebration went horribly wrong and resulted in Verstappen’s victory trophy being smashed to pieces.
