The Chandler Bing star had an up and down life off screen
Matthew Perry will always be known to an entire generation as Chandler Bing, the affable, sarcastic Friends character who had us in stitches for 10 years.
He starred in over 13 films as well as over 41 television productions. He won three awards in his career but was nominated in several others. Later he was hooked on methadone, amphetamines, and alcohol. In his words, he spent $9 million on various interventions to stop his addiction. Perry's alcohol addiction took hold during the ten-season run of "Friends." At one point, his weight plummeted to just 9 stone, and he consumed over 50 Vicodin pills daily. Throughout his fight, he entered rehab more than a dozen times and underwent at least 14 surgeries. Perry's family was informed by doctors that he had a mere two percent chance of survival.
He was also romantically involved with Lizzy Caplan from 2006 to 2012. Perry got engaged to literary manager Molly Hurwitz in November 2020, but sadly, the couple called off their engagement in 2021.
