Members of the British royal family are “too busy fighting among themselves” to represent Australia, the leader of Australia’s Republican Movement has said
had a bearing on local opinion. Instead, he believes the monarchy is a vital form of protection against political overreach that could occur in a presidential-style republican system.
Australians are also divided on the issue with some saying the monarchy is “redundant” but others feeling King Charles should still feature on the currency.the move is a “change in the right direction towards acknowledging the true history of Australia. Phil Raymond, a 40-year-old school teacher from Western Australia was against the change. “The King is still our monarch and should be represented on the $5 note in place of the queen. I’d like Australia to remain a constitutional monarchy but it’s starting to feel like the republic is sadly only a matter of time.”
