Matty Healy kissed his bandmate Ross Macdonald on stage at Good Vibes Festival.

The 1975’s Matty Healy was spotted strolling around sunny Los Angeles for the first time since his on-stage antics sparked outrage in Malaysia. The British singer made headlines after kissing his bandmate on stage during a performance, causing a stir in the country over their LGBTQ+ laws.

During their performance in Malaysia, Matty sparked controversy when he grabbed the face of his bass-playing friend, Ross MacDonald, and passionately kissed him in front of a packed crowd. The on-stage same-sex affection was followed by a profanity-laden speech, which did not sit well with the Good Vibes Festival organisers.

The repercussions of the controversy extended to The 1975's tour plans in Asia, leading to the cancellation of two tour dates. The band announced that their performances at We The Fest in Jakarta, Indonesia, and at the Taipei Music Centre in Taiwan would not go ahead. “The band never take the decision to cancel a show lightly and had been eagerly looking forward to playing for fans in Jakarta and Taipei but unfortunately due to the current circumstances, it is impossible to proceed with the current shows. The Malaysian Ministry of Communications and Digital took further action, blacklisting The 1975 under a body that oversees foreign artists performing in Malaysia, making future concerts in the country uncertain for the band.
