Man United have opened talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for Marc Cucurella after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
"Transfers are difficult," Pep Guardiola conceded last year when Chelsea were set to win the race for Marc Cucurella's signature.
Boehly has since put himself on the naughty step and stepped away from running the football side of the club. Chelsea have wasted an inconceivable fortune during his short reign and £60m for Cucurella was one of many poor decisions. Chelsea's scattergun approach was never going to work. They finished the season in 12th position, below sides like Crystal Palace, Fulham and Brentford and Mauricio Pochettino was the man chosen to oversee their rebuild.
The 25-year-old was never worth £60m, but you don't turn into a bad player practically overnight and there were no players who emerged with credit from Chelsea last season, so Cucurella was hardly the only underperformer. He was a key player in Brighton's build-up play and there are certainly worse options in the transfer market for Manchester United, who are actively looking to strengthen at left-back after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
