There will be screenings of films from Anurag Kashyap, Srijit Mukherji and Atul Sabharwal
The UK’s largest celebration of Indian and South Asian cinema is coming to Manchester and will feature the UK premiere of Anurag Kashyap’s latest film following its Cannes debut.
The festival will kick off at the The Carlton Club in Whalley Range with a screening of Mutiny: Asians Storm British Music. The 2003 rarely-seen film is described as being ‘part music documentary, part social history’ and showcases the impact the British Asian second generation had on the British mainstream music charts of the 1990’s. It will be followed by a Q&A session hosted by Ladybeige of The Social Service with figures from the local music scene including Chandé and Ruby Swallow .
The festival’s annual Satyajit Ray Short Film Competition will take place on October 28 at the School Of Digital Arts , featuring the works of talented and emerging filmmakers. On October 30 at Ducie Street, the first three episodes of Pakistani drama The Pink Shirt will be shown on the big screen.
