Man Utd are already putting plans in place ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window.

If last Wednesday's 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich taught us anything, it's that a change in ownership is Manchester United's only hope of competing with the German heavyweights off the pitch.

Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez started in the heart of the back-four in Munich, with 35-year-old Jonny Evans, originally invited back to Carrington over the summer to work on his fitness after leaving Leicester City, providing the only cover on the bench. Bayern, by contrast, had Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae starting, while Matthijs de Ligt, who worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax, was on the bench.

In a bid for them to take the next step, they need further additions through the form of the transfer market. As reported by the Manchester Evening News earlier this month, United are already putting recruitment plans in place for 2024, targeting new additions at full-back, centre-back, in central-midfield and in attack. Clubs of United's stature can ill-afford to stand still.

In reserve, however, United lack sufficient quality. Lindelof is a good rotational option, but the club wanted to sell Maguire during the summer and Evans is not a long-term solution. United, ideally, could require up to two new centre-backs next summer to provide sufficient depth and quality in reserve.
