Man Utd academy coach Paul McShane has secured a new role that will see him combine his work at club and international level.
Manchester United coach Paul McShane is set to take up a new role as part of the Republic of Ireland Under-21s' backroom staff.
The 37-year-old will remain in his current club position as lead academy coach for United U15s while combining his work as an assistant for Jim Crawford at youth international level. McShane has already achieved his UEFA A Licence and was accepted onto the Football Association of Ireland’s UEFA Pro Licence course earlier this year.
The former defender will join up with the Ireland Under-21 players and staff ahead of next week's games against Turkey and San Marino.McShane will become the latest former United player to occupy the international role, taking over from John O'Shea, who has now become part of the senior Irish backroom staff.
"I’m still learning as a coach and it has been a whirlwind few years since transitioning from player to coach but this is an unbelievable opportunity to coach with my country."
