Abu Agila Masud is accused of building the explosive device that killed 270 people in the deadliest terrorist attack in British history
Abu Agila Masud is accused of building the explosive device used in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 from Frankfurt to Detroit, which fell over the Scottish town of Lockerbie in Dumfries and Galloway.
A spokesman for the Crown Office confirmed: “The families of those killed in the Lockerbie bombing have been told that the suspect Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi is in US custody. Former Libyan intelligence officer Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was found guilty of mass murder over the bombing in 2001, but remains the only person convicted over the attack.
Charges against Masud in the US were first unsealed two years ago. The BBC reports Masud was kidnapped by a militia group in Libya last month.
