Wayne Phillips was awe-struck at the pallative care his mum received from nurse Faye Russell-Jones
A grateful man has donated two years' salary to the nurse who cared for his dying mum at a hospice. Jean Phillips, from St Brides in Newport, Wales, was cared for at St David’s Hospice by nurse Faye Russell-Jones, 29, for three weeks before she sadly passed away on March 17 this year after battling a terminal illness, reports Wales Online.
Explaining his decision, strategic planning consultant Wayne said: “The care my mother received from the hospice and in particular from Faye was truly astounding.” He explained how he’d become “scared” and “didn’t know where to turn” for help with his mother’s care until her doctor recommended he speak to St David’s.

My mother, who could be quite stubborn and uncooperative and especially if she didn’t take to a person, immediately warmed to Faye. It was as if a light had gone on.” “We told mum that we were going to make a donation and even as she was dying she turned to me and said: ‘You will make that donation to the hospice won’t you?’ She was lucid and fully coherent right until the end and knew how hard and passionately the staff had worked for her.”
