'Officers deployed lifesaving equipment into the water as well as tasking Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service for assistance'
A man reportedly entered the River Lagan on Friday during a police pursuit and attempted to swim away from officers.
In a police statement, a PSNI spokesperson: "Officers pursued the man on foot toward the nearby area of Laganbank Road. In an attempt to evade police, the man entered the River Lagan and attempted to swim away."Officers deployed lifesaving equipment into the water as well as tasking Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service for assistance.
"Thanks to our colleagues in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service for the joint approach in being able to safely rescue this man so that he could be arrested."
