Sam Garland appeared before Nottingham Crown Court
A 28-year-old man will have a trial on charges of burglary, robbery and strangulation. Sam Garland, of Swinton Copse, Boughton, Newark, denied all three charges on Monday .
He entered his pleas over video link from HMP Nottingham to Nottingham Crown Court. The burglary allegedly happened on July 20 this year at a home in Bentinck Close, Boughton, where a Samsung phone and charger were taken. The robbery allegation is over the theft of an e-bike on July 20, and the strangulation involved a male on the same date. Garland's trial is list for two to three days and is in the week of January 8.Recorder Tom Restall told him: "You have pleaded not guilty to these matters, so there will be a trial in the week of January 8 next year. Obviously, some months away, but you will not doubt have it fixed in your mind".
He reminded Garland he needs to prepare for the trial and work with his solicitors to prepare a defence statement which will set out his position on everything. "I need to tell you that although you are remanded into custody at the moment, you need to attend your trial. If you don't, the court night proceed in your absence", he added.
