Manchester City take on Newcastle United in the Premier League tonight
hinted again on Friday that he would prefer to give Gvardiol more time on the training pitch - but the need for a strong back line may trump that desire. The manager admitted City would have to accept Gvardiol's mistakes against Sevilla, so patience may be the key this weekend if he plays again.
And Gvardiol himself admitted in Greece that he is fairly unfamiliar with the left-back role that he played against Sevilla. "As long as I am on the pitch I am happy and it doesn't matter which position I play," he said. "I will give my best and I will try to give everything. Today I was in that position. I was happy with my performance but I can do even better. I will need some time for sure to remind myself about [playing left-back] and some time on the pitch.
