Ally Connell Snr was fishing off the coast of Dunbar on Saturday when the 'curious' basking shark began following him and his friend.
A fisherman has shared stunning images of a “curious” basking shark as it circled his kayak off the East Lothian coast.
After coming in for a closer look, the animal eventually swam away leaving Ally in awe at the “amazing experience”. “I knew it was a basking shark. It then started circling my kayak which I thought was an amazing experience and only managed to get a few snaps. In a statement, they said: “The sighting of a basking shark off the East Lothian coast has understandably created much interest with the public. However, we have been made aware that some paddle boarders and kayakers are getting far too close to it, even reaching out to touch it.
