A man prosecutors said was driving drunk when his passenger was killed in a crash has been ordered held on $100,000 bail.
Thirty-one-year-old Todd Porter of Beverly, Massachusetts, pleaded not guilty Monday to several charges including motor vehicle homicide while driving under the influence. He was arraigned in a hospital bed where is recovering from injuries in the Sunday night accident.
Prosecutors said Porter was driving a Cadillac SUV when he ran a red light while speeding in downtown Beverly and hit a pickup truck. Porter's passenger and girlfriend, 45-year-old Christine Dinis of Peabody, was killed. The other driver, 48-year-old Dennis Moustakis of Salem, was seriously injured. The judge revoked Porter's bail on an earlier OUI case, and set $5,000 bail on outstanding warrants involving alleged abuse of Dinis to which Porter also pleaded not guilty.
