Daniel collapsed in the doorway of McDonalds after he was attacked last Monday
Mali Wright, 29, has not yet entered a plea to the charge in connection with Daniel's death. Daniel, 38, collapsed at the entrance of McDonalds on Bank Hey Road shortly after 4:30pm on Monday October 2. Detectives say he had been assaulted a short time earlier.
A Home Office Post Mortem found Daniel died as a result of blunt force trauma. Wright, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with his murder.Over the weekend Daniel's family paid tribute to him and said he will be "greatly missed" by everyone who knew him. In a statement issued through police, they said: "We lost a son, dad, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew and cousin.
"He passed peacefully surrounded by his immediate family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him." During a short hearing at Blackpool Magistrates Court today Wright spoke only to confirm his identity. He was remanded in custody and ordered to appear at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday October 11, 2022.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Daniel's death continues and officers have asked anyone with information, or phone, dashcam or doorbell footage to contact the Major Incident Portal here or call 101, quoting log 431 of October 7, 2023.
