Dog trainers claim the Scottish public is being hoodwinked by exaggerated stories
The latest blow comes as government advisers ponder a report that many expect will signal the end of the sport north of the border. Scotland has just one unregulated, operational track in Thornton but the Scottish Animal Welfare Commission’s report, due at the end of next month, could spell the end for all dog racing.
Bob Elliot, Director of animal welfare charity OneKind, added: “The statistics are clear; the majority of people in Scotland want to see a greyhound racing ban. Time and time again, we’ve seen doping scandals, horrifyingly high numbers of injuries and deaths.” Hobby trainer Lewis Summers, 26, who races at Thornton Stadium in Fife with his two greyhounds, said he the survey reflected the bad press greyhounds receive, which he believes is unfair.
