The National Air Traffic Services (NATS), which provides air traffic control services in the UK, said it has been forced to restrict flights in order to ensure safety
A “major failure” in the UK’s air traffic control systems is causing havoc today - with many passengers facing delays and hours of uncertainty.
In a statement, the NATS said: “We are currently experiencing a technical issue and have applied traffic flow restrictions to maintain safety. Engineers are working to find and fix the fault.“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.” Another person, hoping to fly into Gatwick, tweeted: "We’re being held off at Zakynthos airport in an aircraft without air con and they’re saying Gatwick is closed/ATC not allowing us to land. Could we please have updates from you?"
