The government changes to bin collections is due to come into force from 2026

Major changes to bin collections have been announced by the government. It has been announced that recycling will be the same everywhere - meaning all homes, businesses and schools will recycle the same materials.

The changes would only affect people in England. Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales set their own policies under devolution. The changes were put to consultation in 2021 when the Government said it wanted to eliminate all reusable or recyclable waste going to landfill by 2050. It is also looking at expanding these rules to cover places of worship, prisons, charity shops and residential hostels.
