Live M61 updates as motorway shuts completely
between Junction 6 and Junction 8 because of what has been described as a 'police led incident'. National Highways expect the road to be closed for a number of hours.
Motorists are being warned to avoid the area and a diversion has been set up. Traffic caught in the closure is tailed back.Highways England has provided a diversion route and are advising people to allow extra time for their journeys.
