M&S has responded to the scam

M&S has warned customers of a new Whatsapp scam circulating in Nottinghamshire. A link is being circulated via the messaging app that appears to offer users the chance to secure a free meal for two from the popular store.

M&S has now confirmed the link has not come from them and it appears to be a scam. Nottinghamshire Whatsapp users have reported receiving the link from contacts, which then directs them to a page that says they have won a prize. Users are then asked to share the link with other contacts in their Whatsapp until they have shared it with enough contacts to qualify for the prize. There is then the option to register. Members of the public took to social media to share their concerns. One Twitter user tagged M&S and said: "Hi, can you tell me if this promotion is a scam or legit? The way it’s written and the link looks dodgy but the relative who sent it to me thinks it’s real.

A member of the M&S team replied: "I can confirm this is a scam. Our team are aware and are taking appropriate action. I would advise you and your relative to not click on the link and don’t share any personal details." An M&S spokesperson said: "Our systems continually scan for sites which are impersonating M&S and misleading customers, such as this one. We are investigating with our cyber intelligence partners and have taken action to have the site removed as quickly as possible.”
