The celebrity model has shared her struggle with Lyme disease
Bella Hadid has shared her battle with Lyme disease, as she details the flare-up in symptoms that followed a tooth infection. The 26-year-old model was diagnosed with the condition in 2012, and shared she was struggling with symptoms once again after her recent dental issues.
Analysis published in the open access journal, BMJ Global Health, noted that more than 14 per cent of the world has, or has had, tick-borne Lyme disease. "Then there’s the second group of people who don’t get treatment, and although only a very small percentage of them actually end up with symptoms, they are the ones we worry about.
How do people catch Lyme disease? As Lyme disease is spread through infected ticks, you tend to catch the disease if you are spending time in tick-heavy areas. Dr Mehta also noted: "There are areas of the UK known to harbour infected ticks, like the Lake District, the New Forest, the North York Moors, and the Scottish Highlands. If you see ticks on your skin, you don’t necessarily get transmission for up to four hours, so if you can remove them, that’s ideal.
