The Magpies travel to Colchester United next
Luke Williams spoke about his Notts County team playing with the right level of “fear” and what he hopes his players can learn from an emotionally charged debrief of the Forest Green Rovers game. The Magpies go away to Colchester United next as league leaders after holding on to the three points last weekend at home to Forest Green in a seven-goal thriller.
Now the dust has settled on the game, the focus is purely on the lessons that can now be learned for the next challenge and the similarities that therefore exist with how the team reacted to their opening-day defeat at Sutton United. Williams said: “We went into the Sutton game with fear of the unknown, and we had anxiety because of it, but the [Forest Green] game was almost the opposite.
“For me, the circumstances were different to the Sutton game but the idea [of responding] is the same because we will try to take something that we didn’t like and learn from that. We’re learning that you can’t take any chances in this division so I hope we use that game as an opportunity to improve rather than treat it like a threat to our momentum.”
That next challenge is Colchester who have not put the results together as of yet but have shown signs of promise in some people’s eyes, very similar to what was being said about Forest Green before they almost took something away from Meadow Lane last Saturday.
