Most prolific child serial killer is today being sentenced for killing seven babies and attempting to murder another six

The parents of the baby victims of murderer Lucy Letby have spoken of how the killer nurse wanted to ‘play god’ and described her as ‘evil’. The hospital nurse is today facing a whole life sentence at a hearing at Manchester Crown Court after she was found guilty by a jury on Friday of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill another six.

“The trauma of that night will live with us all until the day we die. Knowing now his murderer was watching us... was like something out of a horror story.” She says she blamed herself for his death and not protecting him: “What if I had not gone to bed that night, maybe he would still be here.” Becoming emotional, but continuing to read to the court, she says no sentence Letby receives could ever compare to what she has gone through.

“I am horrified that someone so evil exists. To you, our son’s life was collateral damage in your persistent desire for drama, attention, praise and sympathy.” The woman told the court: “I blame myself entirely for his death. I still live with the guilt that I couldn’t protect him during pregnancy or in his short life.”

“Lucy Letby, you failed God and the plans we had for [Child D].” She adds: “Those lives were not yours to take,” saying her heart “shattered into a thousand pieces” when her daughter died.
