If you thought Lucas Bravo was the epitome of Frenchness as a baguette-wielding chef in Emily in Paris, you ought to see him discussing Sartre. 🟠 francescasteele

“It was a blessing and a curse, you know? Every time leaving a place was heart-breaking,” he says. “But at the same time, I think the opportunity to reinvent yourself, to be a bit of a chameleon and to learn new languages and see different ways of thinking, it’s a gift. It gives you a larger sense of what the world is.” What’s the most French thing about him now, then? “Probably smoking after the gym. Although, wait, I don’t want to encourage people to smoke.

“This has been my favourite season to shoot so far, I think. It’s a fun one for Gabriel because he’s kind of been stuck between his restaurants and his girlfriends and now he’s taking matters into his own hands. It’s like a coming-of-age, more mature season for him.” “The Paris I’m experiencing with my generation is a Paris that goes into the street to fight for feminism and climate change and animal rights,” he says. “We’re in tune with the world and travel and are well educated and love art.”

Both she and Julia, he adds, go out of their way “to make the newcomers and all the casting crew comfortable enough to try things, to improvise”. It’s not always like this, he stresses, because “some people want you to act or say lines exactly how they’ve imagined”. Is that a bit stifling? “Yes. But Julia and Lesley, they tell you to trust your instincts and to feel like real actors.”
