BREAKING: New Years Eve fireworks in London are back on.
firework display will go ahead tonight – but the public is being urged to watch it from home as it won’t be visible anywhere from the ground.But earlier today, reports emerged that it had been given the green light to go ahead with just hours to spare.The only way the show can be viewed is by tuning in to BBC One at midnight.
Earlier, The Sun reported that the show will feature performances from stars including Elton John and Dua Lipa.The newspaper said there will also be messages from Gareth Southgate, Paloma Faith, Sir Ian McKellen and London Mayor Sadiq Khan.Mr Khan announced in October that there won’t be a spectacular fireworks display on the Thames this New year’s Eve due to ‘uncertainties caused by Covid’.
The decision was made even before the new Omicron variant sent the number of daily infections soaring to record highs.
