Locals have been left in stitches after a marriage proposal on a Scots town roundabout went horribly wrong after the romantic gesture was shot down with a wild claim.

The unusual proposal took place in Elgin, Moray, after an unlucky person displayed the romantic gesture on a large white bed sheet at a local roundabout.

Their romantic hopes were quickly dashed when someone - presumably Rachel - replied with her own bed sheet, reports the Record. A third bed sheet later appeared but instead of continuing the she will/she won't saga, they instead simply wrote: "Happy 40th Sandi."Last month, another woman was left in tears when her boyfriend decided to propose to her while she was trying to take care of her kids after a long day at work. The lovelorn fella seemingly did not understand the phrasing "will you marry me?" as a normal question you'd ask anybody wasn't the romantic gesture she wanted.
