The Queen's Gambit Chess is free for Netflix subscribers curiously
A Liverpool video game studio has partnered with Netflix to create an immersive chess game based on popular TV series The Queen’s Gambit.
Rockwater Games, a team of Liverpool developers, approached Netflix to develop the game given the team’s experience in chess games and love of the show. Based on Parliament Street above Arts Bar Baltic, Rockwater is owned by Ripstone Studios and has worked on games such as Chess Ultra, which game reviewer Kotaku called “the Gran Turismo of chess”.This game is a major milestone for the studio.
He added: “We’ve set out to create a ‘love letter to The Queen’s Gambit’ and a new benchmark for chess on mobile, by channelling our own love of the show, our years of experience creating successful simulations, and the incredible creativity of our team. We’re making a game that I know fans of the series are going to love and that truly offers something for chess players of every level.”
Players can also experience Beth’s super-power first-hand, choosing to look to the ceiling to visualise the dance of possible solutions before the best move is revealed. The game features a wealth of beautiful 1960s locations that fans of the series will instantly recognise. Including The Methuen Orphanage and The Mariposa Hotel in Las Vegas.
