The Scottish champions squad has been hit by a large number of absentees ahead of this weekend's derby against Rangers.
The Hoops are eager to sign a centre-back during the final days of the summer transfer window after Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh and Maik Narwocki were all ruled out long-term. Liam Scales was handed a rare cameo for last Saturday's draw with St Johnstone, alongside new signing Gustaf Lagerbielke. However the pair looked uncomfortable in spells which has further sped up calls for defensive reinforcements ahead of Friday's deadline.
Phillips played just 66 minutes for Liverpool last season and has been put up for sale by manager Jurgen Klopp. He has previously had loan spells at Stuttgart and Bournemouth in recent years, while English Championship side Middlesbrough are also said to be interested in Phillips' services. However, Celtic are believed to be the frontrunners for the 26-year-old.

Brendan Rodgers has had a mixed start to his second tenure in charge at Celtic with the Hoops already knocked out the Viaplay Cup. But they do have the lure of Champions League football which could come in their favour when trying to get last minute transfers such as Phillips over the line.
