A crash has shut part of the M6 tonight - follow our live blog for the latest traffic updates
in Lancashire tonight following a crash which has closed a section of the motorway. The route is shut from junctions 29 to 28 southbound, and northbound at junction 28.
Police have said the closure is "likely to be in place for some time". Monitoring service Inrix reports that traffic is at a standstill while National Highways says a car has "come to rest on its side and caught fire", describing the incident as "very serious".said on Twitter: "We are dealing with a road traffic collision on the M6 motorway near to J28.
National Highways says southbound traffic will be let off at the J28 southbound exit slip road shortly. Responding to a question on Twitter, a spokesperson said: "Please be patient though as this is a very serious incident."
