They can deliver food to your door in under an hour!
Co-op has announced that it is partnering with Starship Technologies so deliveries can be made entirely by the machines. At first, 20,000 residents living in Adel and Tinshill should be able to order using the robots from the Spen Lane and Otley Road stores.
The robots travel at pedestrian speed, and are battery powered. They navigate their journey using sensors, artificial intelligence and machine learning to help them use pavements and get around obstacles. Four million deliveries have been completed safely since Starship robots were launched. Councillor Helen Hayden, Leeds City Council’s executive member for infrastructure and climate, said: “As a council we are absolutely committed to delivering alternative, sustainable methods of travel to help reach our target of becoming net-zero by 2030. We are trying to reduce the number of short journeys made by car, including those made by delivery vehicles.
