Manchester City found it difficult to persuade Cole Palmer to stay after the player decided to join Chelsea in the final week of the transfer window.
Pep Guardiola had suggested that the only way Palmer would leave would be a permanent transfer, and the England under-21 international sealed his exit with a £42.5m move to Chelsea, becoming City's most expensive academy graduate in the process.
