Pep Guardiola has missed two games in his six years in charge of Manchester City, with one win and one defeat under Mikel Arteta and Rodolfo Borrell.
Pep Guardiola will leave Juanma Lillo to make the decisions in charge of Manchester City for the next two games, if history is anything to go by.
Lillo was also absent for the trip to Swindon as the City camp was affected by Covid, leaving assistant manager Borrell in charge at the County Ground. He spoke of trust from Guardiola to manage the game as he saw fit, offering advice at the other end of the phone if it was needed - but that wasn't insisted upon from the boss.
So for the next two games, it would seem that Lillo will take advice and instruction from Guardiola before the game, but will be left to his own devices during the match given his standing among the coaching staff. Guardiola always consults his staff and points to them as hugely important in City's success, so will trust them to approach the next two games in their own style in order to get the best out of the situation.
"We were very aware of Lyon's strengths and weaknesses. We were well prepared. We weren't prepared to be 2-0 down at the break, but you have to react," he said. "The ideal scenario is to have a full stadium every time and being behind the team like crazy but we know sometimes it doesn't happen. I don't think that's an excuse though."
