Staff jobs are safe - they will transfer to the new building
A Lidl store has been put up for sale for £1.5 million due to relocation. The discount retailer will be closing the shop at West Point Shopping Centre in Chilwell when a new store opens a mile away in Long Eaton.
The Long Eaton store - set to open next year - will be bigger and will have a 157-space car park. A Lidl spokesperson said the Chilwell shop will not close until the new store has opened.Opening is anticipated in summer 2024. Staff will be transferred to the new store.
The rejection was overturned on appeal in 2020, with a Government planning inspector saying the two stores would only divert a small proportion of trade from Long Eaton town centre and that the town’s retail was “robust enough” to withstand the impact.
