One Leeds school has already said it may close some year groups or the whole school on Monday
With temperatures forecast to rise to the mid-30s on Monday and upper-30s on Tuesday, a handful of schools outside Leeds have already announced their intention to stay closed after the weekend. Other schools, such as Parklands Primary, are wrestling with lesson plans and have warned they could close.
More announcements of school closures are expected to come in tonight or on Monday morning. The decision to close a school for emergencies, such as extreme weather, a power cut or an illness outbreak, is usually made on the morning of the school day in question. The decision must be made by the headteacher or local authority.So how can you find out if your school will be closed? Chris Dyson, headteacher at Parklands Primary School in Seacroft, said: "If we can stay open, we will... it may be certain year groups are closed and other remains open, but until I see and feel it tomorrow I can't mak that decision. "To reiterate, staying open is a priority if possible BUT the DFE won't be making that decision - I will."
