Four men are jointly charged with Lee Dawson's murder with a woman accused of assisting an offender
Preston man Lee Dawson was stabbed to death in revenge for 'obnoxious' behaviour at a party in Preston, a court heard.
The day before Mr Cross' funeral, Mr Dawson travelled from the North East to Preston and met with three others at the Wellfield pub in Adelphi Street. However in the early hours of the morning, the group went to a flat in Driscoll Street, where a woman was hosting a get-together. Mr Benson KC showed the jury a series of CCTV clips which showed Bibby and Wilcock walk from Driscoll Street to Lychgate, off Church Street, the home address of Bibby's mum. They left the address a short time later - Bibby wearing a balaclava and Wilcock wearing a face covering, with his hood up. The pair returned to the area of the party, and seeing police outside, they told an officer there was "a tall thin man that needs to leave".
Mr Benson KC told the court that Cross, Brown and Metcalf also left the scene, and were seen on CCTV by some bins at the Landmark Crossgate Church, on St Mary's Street North, where the prosecution says Metcalf used a bottle of milkshake she was carrying to wash the hands of Brown and Cross. Mr Benson KC said the following day, Bibby was in touch with another woman who lived at the address in Driscoll Street, by text message.
"They followed them, and they engaged them. Lee Dawson was prepared to stand his ground. He took his top off and wrapped it around his arm. Andrew Wilcock and Ben Bibby slashed out at him. These weren't penknives.
